Hatem Azim
BIOGRAPHY
Hatem Azim is a medical oncologist now working as a senior consultant the Cairo Cure Oncology Center, in Egypt, occupied in the field of pregnancy and fertility in young patients with breast cancer.
During his training in oncology at the National Cancer Institute in Cairo, he spent some time at the Fedro Peccatori’s laboratory at the European Institute of Oncology in Milan, in Italy.
After that he completed a master’s degree in oncology at the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne and a PhD at the Faculty of Medicine of the Université Libre de Brussels. Over years, he served as a medical oncologist and associate scientific director of the Jules Bordet Institute in Brussels, adjunct assistant professor of Oncology at the American University of Beirut and senior faculty for the college of the European School of Oncology (ESO).
In the late 2000s Hatem Azim has contributed to define the pioneer research field in cancer, pregnancy and fertility, also establishing international collaboration. Now he is involved in the impressive POSITIVE trial evaluating the possibility to interrupt the hormonal therapy in pregnant women with breast cancer.
