BIOGRAPHY
Johannes (Hans) Carolus Clevers (born on 1957 in The Netherlands) is the main responsible for the pioneering work in the field of organoids.
Clevers studied medicine and biology at the University of Utrecht (MD in 1984 and PhD in 1985). After a postdoctoral training at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, he became Assistant Professor in 1989 and Full Professor in 1991 at the University of Utrecht.
In 2002, he moved to the University Medical Center Utrecht and started his laboratory at the Hubrecht Institute for Developmental Biology and Stem Cell Research.
In 2015, he started another laboratory at the Princess Maxima Center and became the Director Research and Chief Scientific Officer there until 2019.
Since March 2022 he is Head of Pharma Research and Early Development of Roche, in Basel (Switzerland).
Hans Clevers has received numerous prestigious awards and honors for his scientific contributions, mainly in the organoid field.
