BIOGRAPHY

Eric Van Cutsem is a world-renowned expert in gastrointestinal oncology. He recently retired from the position of Head of Digestive Oncology at University Hospitals Gasthuisberg and the University of Leuven (KULeuven) in Belgium. Over his illustrious career, Van Cutsem has made pioneering contributions to the understanding and treatment of digestive cancers, including colorectal, gastric, pancreatic, and esophageal cancers.

His research focuses on developing new therapies and refining diagnostic tools for gastrointestinal cancers, and he has published over 1,600 scientific articles, earning him an H-index of 146. He has received numerous accolades for his work, including the ESMO Award and the European Award in Medicine for Cancer Research.

Van Cutsem is also a co-founder and Medical Director of Digestive Cancers Europe, where he advocates for patient care improvements and cancer prevention.
