David Cunningham
BIOGRAPHY
David Cunningham is a distinguished Consultant Medical Oncologist at The Royal Marsden Hospital in London and Surrey, where he leads the Gastrointestinal and Lymphoma Unit. He is also the Director of Clinical Research at the hospital and the Director of the Royal Marsden/Institute of Cancer Research National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Biomedical Research Centre.
With a research focus on gastrointestinal cancers and lymphoma, Professor Cunningham has been instrumental in advancing the field of cancer treatment. He played a key role in establishing perioperative chemotherapy for gastroesophageal cancers and in the clinical development of Cetuximab, which is now routinely used in CRC treatment. His research has resulted in over 600 publications, and he is regularly invited to speak at international conferences.
In recognition of his services to cancer medicine, Cunningham was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2019. He is also an elected Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences and has served on the editorial boards of leading medical journals, including The New England Journal of Medicine.
