Carlotta Sacerdote
BIOGRAPHY
After many years at the Health and Science City of Turin in Italy, epidemiologist Carlotta Sacerdote is now Professor at the University of Eastern Piedmont and the Principal Investigator of the EPIC study centre in Turin. Her academic background began with a degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Turin in 1998, followed by a postgraduate work in Hygiene and Preventive Medicine and a PhD in Biomedical Sciences and Human Oncology in 2012. Since her degree’s thesis, Carlotta Sacerdote has been involved in the EPIC study, a pioneering prospective project that has demonstrated the role of nutrition, lifestyle, and hormones in the cancer development. Over the years, she followed that project in Turin, at first as the centre’s responsible and then as the Principal Investigator. Also, she has worked on the EPIC Europe Interact, the EPIC Heart, and other studies, that used the EPIC huge dataset to find correlations between lifestyle, diet, and chronic diseases besides cancer.
