BIOGRAPHY

Alberto Sobrero is a highly respected oncologist with a focus on gastrointestinal cancers. He has been the Head of the Medical Oncology Unit at Ospedale San Martino in Genoa, Italy, since 2001. Sobrero's career is distinguished by his work in designing and interpreting clinical trials, which have had a significant impact on cancer treatment, particularly in CRC.

Before taking his current role, Sobrero spent time in the U.S.A., where he was a postdoctoral associate and later an Associate Research Scientist at Yale University, specializing in medical oncology. He has been involved in pivotal studies, including leading the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) Protocol Review Committee from 2002 to 2006. His expertise has earned him a place on the editorial board of key journals like the Journal of Clinical Oncology and numerous roles within the ESMO, where he has served as Chair of the Gastrointestinal Committee and led initiatives to evaluate cancer treatment outcomes.

Sobrero’s research has resulted in over 200 publications, and he received the prestigious ESMO Award in 2016 for his contributions to cancer research.
